When your life needs more footballness...
Game Audio
Q: Can you produce audio for My Team vs. this other team?
A: Sure! For $50 you can sponsor game Audio. Just
Contact Us
and we will set it up. We will even produce Audio of past games if you like.
Q: $50 for computer speech audio? Can you please charge less?
A: We are just getting this thing off the ground and that is the price we feel we need to charge to step away from development. The price should come down in time. Check out the developer's blog for more info on future features.
Founders Badges
Q: What do I get for my $195?
A: Initially you'll get a warm fuzzy feeling because you've helped support year round football. You'll also gain access to Audio Files and Game results 4 hours before game time. Additional perks will be dolled out as we add new features. Thease may include: Voting rights in team decisions, virtual tickets to games, an insider news letter, etc.
Kicking Game
Q: Why are their no kicking stats? and/or Why do teams always go for it on 4th down?
A: There are two answers to this question that may end up being true. The first is that we don't like the kicking game. Yes the game is called football, but it just seems so out of place in the game. The second answer is that we may eventually add the kicking game. No promises. Chances are we will add equivelents, for example, Extra Points but with out the kicking component and Kick off/Punt type rules that don't involve kicking. Currently teams start out at the 50 at the begining of the game and after each touchdown.
Schedule
Q: How is the season structured in the YTFL?
A: Our goal with the schedule was to alway give teams something to play for. The season is currently split into 4 sections:
Divisional - 8 team divisions playing a round robin(7 games for each team). 128 teams in the top group.
Regional - 8 team divisions playing a round robin(7 games for each team). 64 teams in the top group.
Superleagues - 8 team divisions playing a round robin(7 games for each team). 32 teams in the top group
Championships - 16 team single elemination tournament, but each team continues to play after elimination. 16 teams in the top group.
The following table lays out the advancment from one round to the next.
Divisional: 8 groups of 16 divisions:
EE, EN, EW, ES
NE, NN, NW, NS
WE, WN, WW, WS
SE, SN, SW, SS
These 8 groups are split into groups of 128. A round robin is played and at the end you have teams ranked 1-8.
These teams advance to the regionals acording to the below chart.
The new divisions formed in the regionals play another 7 games and then advance to the SuperLeagues.
It looks a lot more complicated then it is. At the start of the season there are 256 teams out of the 1024 that can end up winning the AAA championship. The teams from the second group(ranked 129-256) can win thier divisional and advance to the AB regional(See the B1 and the end of the AB regional? Those are the 1st place teams from the group 2 divisions, ie. EN-2...in this case 2=B, 3=C for the groups). If they achieve first or second place in their AB regional they will advance to an AAB SuperLeague(See the blue squares on the AB regional? The color points to the positioning in the corospondingly colored SuperLeague.). Finishing first in this SuperLeague will get you into the AAA championship(See the orange?).
The advancement pattern is the same for all levels, I just left off the color to keep it from getting too busy.
Championships are single elemination in the sense that you have to go 4-0 to win the championship, but all teams play all four weeks. The last week there will be a 1st place game, a 3rd place game, a 5th place game, etc...all the way down to a 15th place game.
Q: Why is this so complicated?
A: The short answer is fun. No one like to lose week after week. Everyone wants something to play for. In this system, you have a fresh start every 7 weeks. If you didn't do so hot in your last division you will be playing competition that is more on your level. Who knows, your team may be ready to go undefeated against the new competition.
We are unapologizing college football fans. We love that every game is of ultimate importance. We have tried to reproduce that here. We love that bowl season in college football lets so many teams go out on top. We feel that our Championship system helps emulate that. At the end of the season we have 64 out of 1024 teams that have won some form of championship and 512 teams that have ended their season with a win tha acomplished something...even if it was only to finish 15th instead of 16th.
Finally, we think this sets up great games as the season goes on. Each team has their division that will stay fairly consistant. Here you will form rivalries with the teams in your geographic area. In the Regionals, the best in the East are paired with the best in the North(And the West with the South). Finally in the SuperLeagues you will be down to 32 teams in the top group and you will have some truely epic contests. Imagine the top 25 in college football playing a mini round robin. We think it is going to be very exciting.
Players
Q: Why does each team only have 22 players?
A: We are keeping it simple. We hope to eventually add a very detailed player recruitment element to the game.
Q: Our QB is terrible. Anyway we can request a trade?
A: We probably won't bedoing trades. The game will work more like college. You'll be able to recruit players or sign waived players, but trades tend to invite collusion.
Q: Don't these guys ever get tired? When will subs be in the game.
A: When it is done. It is on the masterplan. One thing to note is that we will probably do in game stamina, but not season long stamina. Teams want to know who they are paying for when they get a player and things like computer generated players getting injuries and getting 'tired' seems more like a pain then like fun.
Q: X teams players are so good! Why are my team's players so bad?
A: We had a draft. The draft order was based on population. This stinks for the small town teams, but we had to start somewhere. This should correct itself when we add recruiting.
Teams
Q: Can I take control of a team?
A: Eventually you'll be able to have some control over a team.
Q: My city doesn't have a team, can you create it?
A: Not right now. We will stick with 1024 teams for a while. Stay tuned to the developer's blog to keep up with when/if we add more teams.
Q: Can I move a team to my city. My city is great and should have a team.
A: Everyone has their price. Ours depends on the team you want to move and where you want to move it to.
Contact us
if you are really serious about this...like serious enough to already have a founder's badge.
Q: Can I change the mascot of my team?
A: Not right now. The ability to do this will be added later.
Play Calling
Q: Throwing the ball from the 1 on 4th and 1 is so dumb! Can I call the plays for my favorite team?
A: Yes you can! Visit the
Coaching Wizard
to become a coach and start coaching. You can coach up to 7 teams at a time.
Q: How does this coaching thing work again?
A: YTFL coaching is done by committee. A team can have over 100 coaches. You will start off with a small number of play call cards that you focus on. Each play call card has a number of scenarios. When all of those scenarios are met, you card has a chance of being used. If your card is unscussufully called the next coach in line with a card that meets the critera will get a chance. When you card is finally called you will move to the back of the line.
Q: My play call cards met the scenarios in a game, but it seems like they are never called. Why?
A: There are a number of reasons this could happen. Each card starts off with a 25% chance of being called when it meets all the scenario types. Sometimes you just have bad luck and your card doesn't get called. Don't worry though, your card stays at the front of the line and if that scenario occurs again, you'll have another chance. You may also have a bunch of people in front of you in line to call a play. You can increase you standing in line by gaing experience as a coach or by having a GM for your team promote you(Coming Soon).
Q: Can I get an example?
A: Let's say that your team has a bunch of coaches. Three of you have a 4th down and short card. The coach with the most Historic Coaching Points is going to be at the front of the line if none of the coaches have been promoted or demoted by a GM. When it is fourth and short, the coach at the front of the line gets to try to use his card. If he fails the 'test' the next coach gets a chance...and so on down the line. This makes it very important that the coachs co-ordinate their game plan to cover all their bases.
Q: How does the line work?
A: Play call cards that match the most scenarios will be first. Say there are 5 cards that all meet 5 Scenarios(i.e. second and long in the second quarter in the red zone with the score tied). These cards will be ordered based on the coach's historic coaching points and their GM rating. If all 5 fail to be called then the cards that match 4 of the 5 scenarios will be tested. And so on down the line until a play is successfully called.
Q: What are the Scenarios I can add to my play call cards?
A:

Ranking / Ladder
Q: I see some number by my team's name. Is that a ranking or something?
A: Yes. That is their ladder rank.
Q: How do teams move up / down the ladder?
A: Teams move up by beating teams that are ranked higher then them, or when a team above them drops. When an upset occurs the winner moves half way up to the rank of the winner. If the teams are more then 10 ranks apart then the loser moves 1/3 of the way down to the losers rank. If the teams are within 2 ranks of each other (ie 1/2 or 1/3) then the teams switch places.
Q: When is the ladder calculated?
A: Every evening after the days competition is complete.
Q: I think the ladder messed up because my team was ranke XXX and we beat ZZZ but only moved to YYY?
A: The ladder is processed in order of game time. The rank that you are when you play your game may not be the rank you are when your game is processed. For example, you may have been ranked 9 and lost to 17. If this were the case you wouldn't move down, but if earlier in the day a couple teams jumped above 17 causing them to drop to 20, and then you lost to them, you new rank would be 12.
Q: Where can I see the ladder in order all in one place?
A:
View the ladder here.
