Welcome to my own little dream world

A few weeks ago I decided to start a little exercise where I was going to start telling my self "NO" once a day. I was going to write about the experience and in a blog and see where it took me. Below is the beginning of the text that I started writing for the first day:
I want to build a Simulated Football League.

No.

But here's how it will work. We'll license a football engine to run the game simulations and we'll upload them to YouTube. We will then set up a web application that allows people to become coaches of teams and manage them.

No.

But we'll have this great combine system. We'll run the players through a simulated combine. You can see their stats from the combine on the web.

No.

But I really do have an awesome play scripting system that will give coaches all kinds of freedom in scripting their plays.

No.

But I have an awesome scheduling system that allows for a league of 1024 team. Part of it is this awesome pool play tournament that give a ton of teams a chance at the championship. On top of that there is ladder play so that you always have something to play for. It will be awesome....
And that is as far as I got. I tried to tell myself no, but I just couldn't. Here I am six weeks later with http://www.yourtownfootball.com.

My goal is simple really. More football. We have a long way to go before the YTFL could even begin to resemble real football, but in the mean time, I'm satisfied that we have at least achieved footballness. Over the next few weeks we will be implementing more interactive features that put the games in the hands of our fans. In the mean time, subscribe to the RSS feed of your local team and the Audio RSS feed. Follow along and we'll be sure to update you when it is time for you to have your say in how the games go.

I read an interview with Jack Nicholson in which he said, "The fuel for the sports fan is the ability to have private theories." I've tried to take that to heart in my plans for the YTFL. I hope that this will be a place where fans can not only have their own private theories, but also share and implement those theories.

Please also consider buying a founder's badge. I plan to take good care of my founders as the league progresses. If you buy one you'll have highly exclusive access compared to other players and fans. To start off with you will have access to game audio for broadcast games four hours ahead of time.

You can also buy Kudos. Kudos will be the currency of the YTFL. Currently you can spend your Kudos by buying tickets to games. When you buy a ticket to a game you can choose a team to root for. This will increase that team's chance to earn a 10% skills bonus during that game. Tickets cost 10 Kudos and you can purchase 250 kudos for $25. You can also refer a friend when you buy your ticket and earn 5 kudos if they visit the site. We'll be adding many more ways to spend and earn kudos in the future.

Feel free to leave comments and let me know what types of features are most important to you.
